Alvarinho (the Portuguese name for Albariño) is a fuller-bodied white typically grown along the River Minho in Portugal, in the northern tip of the Vinho Verde region, and bordering Rías Baixas in Spain. These wines tend to be more serious than their Vinho Verde counterparts (though there are some fantastic Vinho Verdes out there as well!) The Foral is rich with peach, apricot, lychee, orange zest and blossoms, jasmine and lemon balm and packing a much stronger punch (13.5%!) than the neighboring Vinho Verdes based on the Loureiro grape. This is an excellent summer white, especially paired with an al fresco meal of Bulhão Pato clams, grilled sardines and Bacalhau. Bom Apetite e Tim Tim!
