Staff Pick Notes

Viognier is a traditional Rhône Valley grape that has been planted in Sonoma County California since the 1980s. Thanks to producers like the fine folks at J. Rickards its popularity has surged recently, and rightfully so--its wonderful combination of bright aromatics and plush, rounded mouthfeel. They take a lighter approach to the grape, partially fermenting in neutral oak, which results in a balanced supple texture that makes this unique varietal really sing. Notes of white peach and green apple leap out of the glass, introducing us to an incredibly refreshing palate where honey and apricot play, remaining floral and crisp without being overly sweet or oily. Fans of Riesling and Gewürztraminer (and spicy food!) take note, you’ll make fast friends with this one. Truly a great introduction to quality Viognier without the high prices.
