Winemaker Jim Rickards' winery is located on the northern end of Alexander Valley in Sonoma County. While this Cabernet boasts dark berried fruits, there are tannins to add a solid backbone and making this a richer style of wine. Aged in French oak for two years, 30% of which was new. Our Reserve Cabernet is aged in 100% French oak barrels, with 50% new oak, for 18 months. The wine is balanced with a structure and age-worthiness which will continue to improve in bottle for the next 10+ years.

A foe to farmers and gardeners, serpentine, a blue/green quartz-like rock, is at home on the California coast. The state rock of California is found in abundance in the northern Alexander Valley where J. Rickards have their sustainable farm. Owners Jim and Eliza Rickards not only produce wonderful wines, they also sell their grapes to wineries (such as Silver Oak for their Alexander Valley bottling). The serpentine rock makes the grapes dig down deep to find nutrients and water. The results are concentrated berries that offer fruit-forward, structured wines. With the combination of an excellent vintage, this big, bold wine has a freshness that lightens up the palate. This is a wine to buy a case of and see the wonderful transformation over the next five to ten years. Outstanding with your next grilled rib-eye steak.
