Staff Pick Notes

Small production Burgundy of high quality is difficult to find oftentimes, and when one does the price is usually pretty amazing, in a bad way. Domaine Forey Père et Fils have gifted us this stellar, approachable, and affordable field blend that is a departure from the vast majority of red Burgundian wines. Very much a traditional wine, but not pure Pinot Noir. Gamay likely originates in the village of Gamay near St. Aubin, but is very rarely seen around those parts. It is not the favored child of Burgundy, to say the least. Despite being banished at least once in history, a tiny amount of this grape is still grown in the Côte-d'Or to this day. This traditional field blend is fifty percent Gamay, fifty percent Pinot Noir, and one hundred percent delicious.

Fans of rich, unctuous, and well-oaked Chardonnay will enjoy Chassagne-Montrachet, whose age-worthy offerings offer all the fatness of a California wine, yet retain a very Burgundian, mineral-driven core and great acidity....
