Chasselas "Petit Clos", Dom. la Colombe - 2020

Item # 42218 750mL

Petit Clos is a vineyard located in the neighboring village of Mont-sur-Rolle. Petit Clos is a vineyard rich in clay, with limestone, and vines over 40 years in age. Of the chasselas single vineyard offerings from Colombe, the Petit Clos is often the most “open” of the range. Like the other chasselas wines, this wine is cool fermented in stainless steel with native yeast, and then aged on its fine lees in stainless steel. Unoaked.

Staff Pick Notes

As the autumn encroaches on us, and the days get shorter, nights longer, and a refreshing chill finally is in the air, we will be consuming heavier foods. For me this means that my cheese consumption increases dramatically (it wasn't that low beforehand, however). Swiss whites are unsurprisingly a perfect match for cheese, especially the alpine-style cheeses that I adore. Obtain some ribbons of Tête de Moine, and pour a glass of this beautiful Chasselas that is not too cold. One sip of this and I'm instantly transported to the well-manicured garden that is Switzerland. This veritable winter wonderland knows how to do textured whites just right.

Glossary

Chasselas

A white grape grown all over the world, including Alsace, the Loire, Germany, Austria, Hungary, and Italy. The best Chasselas wines, however, are produced in Switzerland, where the grape is called Fendant and is the most widely planted variety in the country. When made well, Chasselas is soft, welcoming and easy to drink.
