Item # 42498 750mL

Jean-Claude Lapalu's Eau Forte cuvée is a carbonic blend of Beaujolais Villages and Brouiily and is the ultimate expression of Gamay from separate parcels. It is lithe with impressive persistence and length. This is a wine you should drink standing up.

Staff Pick Notes

Jean Claude Lapalu is neither one of the old guards of natural wine (Foillard, Dutraive, Lapierre) nor one of the younger natty producers but rather sits in the midst of the two generations. With vines going from Mont Brouilly to his home village of Saint-Étienne-la-Varenne ("gateway to the Crus"), Lapalu has been highly touted throughout all of Beaujolais and for good reason. The Eau Forte is a carbonic blend of younger Beaujolais-Villages and Brouilly made typically in cooler vintages to allow better expression of the terroir. Notes of dragonberries, rhubarb, black cherries, smoky incense are supported with bright acid and a spicy, pungent mineral backbone. I drank this standing up as Lapalu would recommend, but I'm completely floored!

Beaujolais Nouveau is perhaps the most gulpable wine made anywhere, and it should be drunk very soon after its release, which occurs each year on the...
