Le Clos des Citots, Poiré Cider

A dry cider made from organic pears with some noticeable sediment. Martine & Gérard Lenormand grow both apples and pears, and have been working the land since 1998. Their Poiré is made from a mix of Plant de Blanc, De Cloche, and Champagne pears, planted on limestone/loam soils. Fermentation is in tank and the poiré goes through a light filtration before bottling with no sulfur added.

The question with Cider is always how sweet is it? Now here is a very dry pear cider that is a real delight to drink. I thought this was gonna be funky and weird but it's not despite being made with minimal intervention from organic pears. The fruit here is bright, fresh and tastes distinctly of pears. The dryness and the low alcohol make this a perfect accompaniment to food or for day drinking or for day drinking while eating food.
