Côte-Rôtie, Xavier Gérard - 2019

Item # 42997 750mL

A Côte-Rôtie from the Xavier Gérard estate that is an assembly of the estate's finest parcels. Some of the Syrah fruit is destemmed while the rest is left as whole clusters during press. This is a finer expression of the appellation with the purity of fruit and finesse of the tannins.

Staff Pick Notes

After taking over the family domaine a few years ago, Xavier Gerard has quickly taken these wines to new heights. Syrah from Côte-Rôtie can be one of the most pleasurable experiences a wine can deliver due to the complex layers of aroma and flavor this grape delivers only here on the "roasted slope." What opens as a mysterious bouquet of violets, blue and blackberries, cedar, and olives, transforms on the palate into a smooth yet powerful experience, finishing with a distinct minerality. One whiff of the glass will get you excited, but when this wine pairs with a meat like seasoned lamb, your tastebuds may indeed go crazy!

Prestigious northern Rhône appellations include Condrieu, Côte-Rôtie, Hermitage, and St.-Joseph. In the southern Rhône, look to the village...

Let it never be said, however, that Shiraz and Syrah are the same thing: the region in which the grape is grown determines much about the flavor of the wine it will produce. Typically, New World Shiraz yields bigger, fruitier wines than the the peppery Syrahs...
