L'Effet Papillon Blanc, Dom. Le Roc des Anges - 2022

Item # 43011 750mL

The Roc des Anges winery started in the early 2000s in the Côtes du Rousillon area near the Spanish border. The soils here are dominated by schist, granite and clay and play a distinct role in the freshness of this unoaked white wine that is fuller in body yet unoaked. Marjorie Gallet was in her early 20s when she came across old vineyards near her home that were abandoned. With the financial help of friends, she was able to create the Domaine Le Roc des Anges in the appellation of the Côtes Catalanes. Since her first vintage in 2003, she has become quite the sensation in this region known more for mass production. Marjorie's estate is the polar opposite of what this region has been in the recent past.

Staff Pick Notes

The world of wine is a neverending exploration of aromas, flavors, regions and varieties. There's always something new to explore. While that's part of the fun it's also nice to have solid go-to options that never let you down. I've been drinking L'Effet Papillon Blanc for at least a decade and it never disappoints. Produced by Marjorie and Stephane Gallet, the blend is dominated by Grenache Blanc. Their vines are located in the hills of Roussillon, where days are warm and sunny, but breezes are plentiful and help to ripen the grapes at a steady pace. Dry, textured, full of nectarine and white peach, and balanced by excellent acidity, this is a wine that I'm sure I'll return to for pleasurable drinking for the next ten years.
