Forastera is a local white grape. This comes from the island of Ischia, off of the coast of Naples.. The estate vines are planted in the commune of Lacco Ameno from a west-facing, terraced vineyard that is purely volcanic. This was fermented with native yeasts and bottled unoaked. The style is typical mountain wine style: elegant with subtle fruit appeal and great acidity.

It's no secret that my favorite winemaking country is Italy. Tasting well made wines reflective of their terroir and tradition from up and down the boot transports me to those locations as soon as I lift a glass to my lips. Drinking an Ischian white wine is no exception. I mean really, who doesn't want to imagine being on a Mediterranean island off the Campanian coast? This island was called Enaria or 'land of the vines' by the Romans & designated as Italy's second DOC in the 1960s, an honor reflective of centuries of quality wine production. This wine is made from a local native variety called Forastera. Ripe fruit & fuller body characterize this dry wine grown at higher elevations on volcanic soils. Ready for a quick trip to Ischia? Serve this with pasta & summer vegetables or a lobster roll and you're there!
