Pallagrello Bianco "Verginiano", Il Verro - 2019

Wines made from Pallagrello Bianco are rare outside of Campania. It's a grape that makes sumptuous, full-bodied white wines that complement seafood or cream based sauces. If you're familiar with Greco di Tufo, this is definitely cut from the same cloth. It's historical reputation stems from a famous vineyard "Vigna del Ventaglio" that was located near the royal palace of Caserta, the throne to the bourbon kingdoms of Naples and Sicily. In 1775, Ferdinand IV asked his architects to plan out a fan-shaped vineyard with mono-varietal plots representing the best wine grapes of the region, among them Pallagrello Bianco. Il Verro's "Verginiano" is not from that famed vineyard, it's from the hilly Alto Casertano to the north, but it's a wonderful expression. Filled with fresh yellow peach, melon, sage, and a rich, languid texture.
