Tasting Notes

This Gamay is light, fresh and charming. Wild strawberry and summer herbs with cranberry tartness. The clusters are left whole and started by carbonic maceration, which lends its distinctive high tone appeal but eventually crushed by foot and finished whole cluster for skin contact and extraction. Pressed to neutral barrique for a short 6 month elevage and bottled right away to preserve delicate aromatics.

Staff Pick Notes

As the seasons change, Jolie-Laide channels the energy of each year into interesting, nuanced wines that are eccentric and weird yet polished and tasteful, something they enjoy presenting through the colorful art on their labels. This spring Gamay Noir release comes from the Barsotti Vineyard, a high-elevation parcel in the Sierra Foothills. Whole cluster and carbonic maceration allow high-toned and expressive fruit to come out without overt extraction. A beautiful nose of strawberry-banana mix, cherry cola, and bubblegum pop with wild floras. Light on its feet, the palate shows all that bright red fruit along with a mineral backbone, vivid, clean acidity, and delicate intricacies that weave themselves through the profile. This charmer awaits warm, sunny days where time passes by without a care in the world.

California

California makes more wine than any other state in the United States. Not only does the state grow a variety of noble grape varieties like Pinot Noir, Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon, there are also plantings of lesser-known varieties such as Nebbiolo, Roussanne and Mourvèdre to name just a few.
