La Boutanche, Thomas Santamaria - 2020

Item # 44096 1L

A wild, red Corsican wine made by Thomas Santamaria in Patrimonio. He is the 6th generation to take over the estate and works biodynamically, following the lunar cycle. This wine is made from all destemmed Grenache with a splash of Niellucciu added for lift. Fermented in stainless steel with a short elévage in tank brings freshness and lip-smacking acidity.

Staff Pick Notes

I first came across La Boutanche with their collaboration with Broc Cellars on an insanely drinkable, glou glou style Zinfandel. The story is the same this time around with this lovely Corsican red from Thomas Santamaria. Fresh and bright on the palate, this wine is a blend of mostly Grenache, with just a pinch of the Corsican native Nielluciu. Soft cherries and bright berries boast an easy drinkability in this nicely acidic red that's meant to be shared with friends in its liter format. What's not to like? Fermented in stainless steel, this wine is all about youth and freshness. Pair with homemade chili-mac and see how far this bottle gets you.
