Swick, Palhete Red - 2020

Item # 44553 750mL

Nerd alert. If you're up on your wine knowledge, you'll understand the specialness of having a red looking wine that's made from mostly a white grape. In this case, it's 90% Verdelho and follows a medieval wine practice from Portugal. Delightful and easygoing. Picnic, BBQ, the beach - you get the idea.

Staff Pick Notes

Before making wines under his own label, Joe Swick spent 10 years working in vineyards worldwide. Palhete is his tribute to the Portuguese method of blending white and red wines (practiced since Medieval times). When Swick returned to his native Oregon, he committed himself to making wines that represented the terroirs and cold climates of the Pacific Northwest. For Palhete, Swick uses organically farmed white Verdelho (90%) and red Graciano (10%) grapes from the Sonrisa Vineyard in the Rattlesnake Hills AVA of Washington. His winemaking is non-intervention and natural. The wines are separately macerated for 30 days and aged in neutral oak for 8 months before being blended. The wine is fresh, soft, and lively. It’s “red” that drinks more like a deep rosé. Serve chilled.
