Staff Pick Notes

First impression: lilies, lemons, chalk, firm white peaches, lots of texture, and the distinctive yet restrained use of oak that’s a classic hallmark of Ridge wines. Second glance: Grenache Blanc is supported by Picpoul and Roussane—all warm-climate varieties commonly grown in southern France. No wonder this trio of grapes is right at home in Paso Robles, where the Adelaida vineyard is located. Picpoul means “lip stinger” and offers up freshness and acidity to support the chub of the Grenache Blanc. Roussane adds to the buzz with beeswax-ey texture and its ability to be manipulated into numerous complex styles. This is a truly distinctive choice from a well established California winery. Not to be missed.

The distinguished Châteauneuf-du-Pape and Gigondas appellations are both characterized by significant percentages of Grenache, while in Tavel and Lirac the grape is used to make...

California

California makes more wine than any other state in the United States. Not only does the state grow a variety of noble grape varieties like Pinot Noir, Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon, there are also plantings of lesser-known varieties such as Nebbiolo, Roussanne and Mourvèdre to name just a few.
