Ochota Barrels, "A Forest", Pinot Noir - 2021

Item # 45604 750mL

Several clones of Pinot Noir were all vinified separately, and then aged for several months in French barriques. Only a small amount of SO2 was added at bottling, keeping this in line with the low invention ethos espoused by the late Taras Ochota. Amber has taken the reigns in full, and now produces these musically oriented cuvées in the style of the original project. This is a light-bodied dry red bursting with herbaceous savory aromas and a medium tannic structure. Pair with wild boar meat pies.

Glossary

Pinot Noir

The Burgundy region of northeastern France is the historic home of the Pinot Noir grape, and is the source of the world’s greatest examples. Here one finds renditions of Pinot Noir that deliver power with finesse and grace, wines that have unimaginable depth of flavor, yet are perfectly balanced and ephemeral in the mouth - in short, wines that deliver all that Pinot Noir has to offer. Terroir, the concept that wines from a specific region have unique and identifiable traits, is intricately...

Australia

Australian Shiraz (made from the grape called “Syrah” in other parts of the world) shows the essence of the outback: it’s big, bold, and a little rough around the edges. The vast country leaves lots of room for variation, however, with its many terroirs each yielding distinctively styled wines. The climate of South Australia’s McLaren Vale district is heavily influenced by the ocean; wines here typically show savory notes of olive and spice on the nose and deep berry flavors on the palate....

South Australia

South Australia is home to nearly half the country's wine production as well as the center of premium Shiraz production. It contains the Clare Valley, Barossa Valley, Eden Valley, Adelaide Hills, McLaren Vale, Padthaway, and Coonawarra regions.

Adelaide Hills

One of Australia's premier cool climate wine regions, the Adelaide Hills region is made up of a collection of sub-regions that roughly sit between the Barossa Valley in the north and McLaren Vale in the south. The high altitude and steep topography of the region exert cooling and humidifying effects, which, along with the highest rainfall in South Australia, contribute to a climate very conducive to leaner, more mineral-driven styles of wine.
