Bodega Murga, Joyas de Murga Albilla I, Valle de Pisco - 2020

Item # 45819 750mL

Peru was the location of the first organized viticulture in South America, and even exported wine back to Spain during colonial times. The Valle de Pisco is a thriving region producing grapes both for the emblematic pisco, but also for a diverse array of wines. This dry skin contact white is made of Albilla, which is also known as Listán Blanco elsewhere in the world. Fermented with wild yeast, it spends 28 days on the skins. With its lighter body, low alcohol, and tannins, this is a perfect wine for the table. A fine choice for Ají de Gallina.

Staff Pick Notes

It’s not everyday you find delicious Peruvian wines in New York. Now you have. Bodega Murga first planted vines in 2014 and distilled their first oisco in 2017. Then in 2018, the family had the idea of making wines from the grapes that make pisco into wine. The family brought in Pietra Possamai, a promising winemaker from Brazil. Since then, the bodega has made distinctly Peruvian wines from the Albilla, Italia, Mollar, Negra Criolla, and Quebranta grapes. Each of these wines follows a commitment to farming organically and vinifying without intervention. Bodega Murga’s Albilla is a natural wine that has undergone 28 days of skin maceration. The aromas are perfumed, yeasty, and evoke crushed apples. The palate is weighty, a bit grainy, and gently tannic. Serve alongside alpine cheeses or pollo a la brasa.
