Bläufrankisch, "Greenschist", Straka - 2020

Item # 46199 750mL

A traditionally made Bläufrankisch from the Straka family, who has been making wine in the Burgenland for generations. Located at the very end of the Alpine foothills, the Eisenberg appellation boasts a unique soil composition of magmatic, and metamorphic rock, and schist. Fermented in open used oak casks, it is aged in stainless steel. Medium-bodied and dry, it beautifully expresses the dark fruit and minerality of this special site. Pair with Hunanese beef dishes.

Staff Pick Notes

Tom Straka has owned this vineyard since 2008. Production is organic and any intervention in the vineyard is minimal. He uses organic waste and cattle manure. The estate was established in the 18th century by his family. They opened a tavern where people could eat and, at the same time, taste their wines. Tom is continuing this great tradition. The vineyards are located between the Alps and the Pannonian plate and the soil is full of magmatic rock: a peculiar soil that gives a strong character to this wine. Fruit flavors are concentrated: red cherry and blackberry, followed by some earthiness and a balanced minerality. It's a vibrant red wine with a medium body and a pleasant long finish.

Blauer Zweigelt), which yields full-bodied wines, deep in color and featuring bold flavors of...
