Staff Pick Notes

A rosé for all seasons the De Sterlich Cerasuolo d'Abruzzo is a darker-colored, fuller-bodied rosé and is the only wine style permitted in this appellation. The winery takes its name from an important family from their area who was of Austrian heritage but whose family lived in Abruzzo for centuries. The last surviving member of the De Sterlich family, Diego De Sterlich, was famous as well, both for focusing on quality winemaking but was also known for helping launch the Maserati car brand. This wine gets its distinctive deep hue from a short maceration of 24 hours or less. The high level of anthocyanins in the skin of the Montepulciano grape imbues the must with both color and tannin in a short timeframe. A crunchy wine with structure and red berried aromas.

Many of the modern incarnations of Abruzzi’s favorite red wine are bigger, more structured,...
