Tasting Notes

The new single barrel release of the revered Paul Marie Pineau des Charentes is made by blending the fresh pressed grape juice of local Ugni Blanc grapes with one-year-old Grande Champagne Cognac from the famed Juillac le Coc region. After an additional 12 years aging together we're left with one of the most impressive pineaus we've ever tasted. Notes of lime peel, maraschino, assam tea, clover honey, and poached stone fruits stand out. A special experience for an after dinner tipple, this is also the perfect pairing for the cheese trolley.

Staff Pick Notes

Until recently, Pineau des Charentes was made and drank almost exclusively by the people of Charentes. That is, until, importer Nicolas Palazzi brought it Stateside determined to uncover Pineau des Charentes from obscurity and encourage Americans to step up their drinking game. So what's inside this beautiful hand-labeled bottle? A blend of Ugni Blanc and one year old Cognac that aged together for 12 years. This traditional French aperitif is full of beautiful stone fruit and citrus notes, a touch of honey and caramelized apples. Sounds like an ideal pairing for foie gras, right? Exactly. And a variety of cheeses? Spot on. By itself, chilled, on a hot summer day. Absolutely- serve it in a wine glass. Be the first of your friends to discover this sensational beverage.
