Staff Pick Notes

“The older the whisky, the better it is.” This motto has no factual basis, yet whisky drinkers seem to tote the phrase wherever they go. Instead say, “The older the whisky, the more it is influenced by the wood.” Not as catchy, but at least it’s true. The Balvenie has always been an excellent arbiter of wood influence, whether it's their 12 yr "Doublewood" or their rare 17 yr Madeira cask. Now they've floored me with their 12 yr Single Barrel. A bouquet of roasted peanuts, maple syrup, allspice, and coffee beans! The palate is full of rich toffee, green apples, peanut butter malt balls, and creamy caramel. Chalk one up for young whisky!
