Tasting Notes

Made according to the original Reyes family recipe, the famed Ancho chiles of Puebla are picked from August to October, dried in the sun and carefully selected and macerated in neutral cane spirit for half a year before getting ready for bottling. The liqueur successfully captures the vivid character of the chiles and the majestic land they hail from with a spicy intensity that will add a lot of flair to your cocktails.

Staff Pick Notes

For true chile fans, the ancho doesn't need much introduction. Made by drying the poblano pepper, it is a richly flavored workhorse of Puebla cuisine and those influenced by it. Having worked with whole anchos in the kitchen, it is delightful to enjoy it in the form of this liqueur. There is an immediate flavor of pure ancho, which is concentrated and fruity, like raisins or tamarind. The heat is a medium burn that stays constant. There's a little sweetness to match the fruit, but the finish is dry and flavorful, seasoned with maybe a hint of cocoa. The taste lingers. I love to drink this stuff neat, though would not hesitate to add some to hot chocolate or a margarita.
