Amaro Di Angostura

Did you come here looking for Angostura bitters only to be disappointed that you can't get them because they're technically a grocery item? If so, then turn that frown upside down and try the Amaro di Angostura instead! It's pretty much classic Ango in liqueur form and a lot more drinkable than doing a shot of the super concentrated aromatic bitters, not to mention a bit easier to pour. This gives you all of the familiar baking spice notes like cinnamon, nutmeg and clove along with cassia bark. While I wouldn't use it as a direct substitute for Angostura bitters, it would definitely bring a similar flavor profile to a drink, perhaps as an alternative to a spiced syrup. Definitely more liqueur than amaro, but something unique and versatile for any back bar.
