Tasting Notes

The jewel in the crown of our collection of Estève cognacs comes from some of the rarest reserve stocks in their cellars in Celles. The "Famille" label bottlings are select blends drawn exclusively from their greatest vintages. Tres Vieux, bottled from cask in late 2017, is a blend of the 1950, 1969 & 1970 vintages. If you've ever wondered why old Cognac is considered the pinnacle of great spirits, this bottle spells it out for you in clear terms with its elegance, refinement and mercurial complexity. Notes include grilled mango and star fruit, ginger tea, pimento spice, coconut macaroons and chocolate covered espresso beans.

Staff Pick Notes

Don't be fooled by this modest label: what lies inside is a rare, liquid treasure. The Estève family sells its cognac to Rémy Martin and saves small amounts for its own personal use. It almost never sells bottles commercially, except to places where it has a historical relationship. Luckily, Astor just happens to be one of those places. A blend of 1950, 1969, and 1970 vintages, taken straight from cask, this was bottled just for us. The Esteve's vineyards are in Petite Champagne near the border of Grande Champagne, and thus shows the soft silkiness of Petite with the ageability of Grande. It's quite simply one of the best Cognacs I've ever had. Notes of smooth, soft caramel, butterscotch, toasted walnuts, and hints of mango are seemlessly interwoven. A remarkable Cognac, with elegance and power all in one glass.
