Practicing Organic

Spirits made from ingredients that have been cultivated without synthetic pesticides, fertilizers and herbicides at any step in the process.

Tasting Notes

From the tiny, historic domaine in Nuit Saint Georges this brandy was distilled from the estates prized Pinot Noir grapes and aged for a minimum of ten years in French Oak casks prior to release. The spirit is lustrous gold in color and heady and high-toned at first pass with notes of yellow plums and ripe canteloupe that settle into more nuanced flavors of wildflower honey white tea, chamomile, sultanas, and white pepper. This rare marc does well to resemble the picturesque estate that has been practing organics since 2000, Biodynamic since 2003 and while small is also home to a formal garden, fruit trees, an ancient fir, and a box tree maze that runs to the edge an old rock cliff. A classic through and through.

Staff Pick Notes

Marc is a brandy distilled from pomace that is left over from winemaking, after the grapes are pressed. It is called marc in both English and French, but you probably know it better as "grappa" in Italian. This amazing spirit is 100% pinot Noir and aged in old French Oak barrels for 10 years. The nose and palate are a wild, shape shifting array - from white tea, to black pepper, to wisps of red fruit and an occasional bit of melon. This historic domaine is doing wonderful wonderful work. Taste their burgundy - then taste their marc. Discover true terroir.

He was an enterprising man who built a wall around the domaine and thus created the Clos de l'Arlot. In 1891, the property was sold to a wine merchant, Jules Belin, who...

Astor's Glossary of Terms

The range of wine styles offered in Burgundy rivals that of any other region. In Chablis, Chardonnay is left unoaked to produce lean, crisp, steely wines with incredible acidity - a far cry from the vanilla-oak bombs that so many consumers associate with this grape. Fans of rich, unctuous, and well-oaked Chardonnay will enjoy Chassagne-Montrachet, whose age-worthy offerings offer all the fatness...
