Tasting Notes

As unexpected as it may be this is one of the most interesting spirits you are bound to taste. An extremely rare brandy from a family distillery known for their whiskies, indigenous Japanese grapes were used to produce the eau de vie that was then aged for 16yrs in French oak casks before being bottled at a natural cask strength of 58% ABV. This opens up in uncanny fashion like a well aged textbook Cognac. With the high proof, it the spirit opens up very slowly allowing you to take in a purity that is almost cutting in its clarity. Before the brandy can get too complacent with Cognac like character, it keeps opening up hitting notes that conjure up a spectrum of brandy styles with notes of jasmine tea, honeysuckle, wild raspberries, apple tarts, brioche, roasted chestnuts and deep spices. A few drops of water calm the spirit down and help it open up. We highly recommend it.

Staff Pick Notes

Japanese whisky is so hot right now. Single malt whiskies masterfully distilled and aged with the finest Scotch in mind as inspiration. Demand has surpassed supply and it's near impossible to keep these bottles on the shelves. Maybe it's time to look at what else Japan is doing incredibly well, on a much smaller scale. This singular offering of brandy is made with indigenous Japanese grapes and aged for 16 years in virgin French oak. Bottled at cask strength, the brandy opens up with a drop of water. Raisins and wood spice become fresh fruits, jasmine, chestnut and chocolate. A brandy for contemplation and reflection. Only a few thousand bottles were released and it won't be reproduced. Get your foot in the door now before it's all gone.
