Tasting Notes

Although it has received less attention than the Port Ellen releases from this same range, nonetheless the four Convalmore releases for Rare Malts have been some of the most exceptional in the entire series to date. Drawn from this "ghosted" distillery's original stocks whisky comes from spirit distilled in 1984 that matured for over three decades in refill American oak hogsheads. A mere 3,972 bottles have been released worldwide! Produced a year before the sight officially fell silent in 1985 this precious whisky is easily one of the most extraordinary we've tasted all year a collector's item that is sure to appreciate very well over the years to come. Time is necessary with this dram as it slowly peels back the layers of complexity buried beneath the surface after 32 years of slumber. The profile is overwhelmingly charming with a cornucopia of honey, cultured butter, vanilla custard, fresh stone fruits and cinnamon. After a few minutes we're taken way back in time with a deeply concentrated perfume of forest underbrush, exotic fruits and wet moss. Persistent throughout, exceptionally well balanced with great length on the finish without being overdone a smidge. This is a world class whisky well worth the tariff.
