Tasting Notes

Like the 'Laddie 10 before it the release of Port Charlotte 10yr marks another historic milestone in the history of this storied distillery. The revival that began in 2001 at Bruichladdich and for Port Charlotte has made these whiskies some of the biggest success stories of the 21st Century so far and propelled the entire industry forward with a focus on terroir, history and traditional production methods. This heavily peated whisky is bottled at a high 50% abv and was bottled from whisky stocks distilled and laid down in 2007. The nose is a two sided coin with peat on one side and heather and malt on the other. Nuanced notes of fresh sliced golden apples, fresh thyme, cinnamon and raisin porridge topped with coconut come forward in the next wave followed by melted butter and cracked pepper. The palate is centered on flavors of dried citrus peels, earthy peat and a hint of spice with a surprisingly mellow and light texture. A beautiful dram with more than a little slight of hand going on here.
