If you've ever tasted bitter liqueurs made from a base that was not industrial neautral alcohol, then you know you can instantly taste the difference. Using their meticulously produced fruit eau de vies as a base, the team at Rhine Hall layers in saffron, carob bean, eucalyptus and other botanicals to create what is without doubt one of the better fernets currently available. The aromas are deep, minty, floral, bitter and seductive. The bitterness thankfully doesn't go over the ledge and for folks that think fernet tends to be too extreme, you'll be pleasantly surprised by the balance as well as the nuance of complex flavors, An extremely welcome addition to this category that will quickly earn its permanent spot on your back bar.

I AM SO EXCITED TO SHARE THIS FERNET WITH YOU. Fernet Lola is made by Rhine Hall, a Chicago based-distillery run by father-daughter team Charlie and Jenny Solberg. The pair decided to turn their hobby into a commercial venture in 2012 and have focused their production on 100% fruit brandies without the addition of any flavorings, sweeteners, or neutral spirits. Fernet Lola is completely different than the aggressively menthol, one-note fernets you might have tried before. It's complex and soft, and flavored with carob beans, vanilla, chamomile, and anise. It reminds me of black licorice and rootbeer jelly beans and makes me just as happy. You'll want to keep this on your backbar for an after-dinner treat from now on.
