Tasting Notes

Located at the crossroads of the Landes and the pictaresque Gers in the southwest of France, this independent estate is run by Madame Colette, who approaches every step of production from the point of view of an artist. This 12yr expression was hand selected by us directly from her private family cellar from a single cask and was bottled at a natural cask strength with zero additives. This bottling is already beyond the requirements for an X.O. and while there are resonant flavors that would fool you into thinking this was much older and more expensive, this is a younger vintage by the domaine's standards. Notes include creme brulee, roasted acorns, almond butter, quince preserves, dried figs, dried tobacco and cacao.

Staff Pick Notes

Armagnac continues to floor me in every age group: 20 years, 40 years, and yes, even 12 year old expressions. This brandy comes from an independent estate run by Madame Collete. Sure her old brandies are great but her younger stocks find equal footing among them. This savant single cask finds balance between bold youthful flavors and the depth that only comes from age. Whiffs of candied cherries, marzipan, dried stone fruits, and tobacco. The palate is dark and delicious: heavy roast coffee, molasses candy, crème brûlée, and dried figs. Don’t let age statements tell you what is good and what isn’t.
