Tasting Notes

This independent domaine is a one woman show run by Madame Colette who takes her practice as a visual artist and imbues it into every aspect of Armagnac production and in the process creates spirits that are highly expressive, and evocative of far more than just the grapes they were made from and the time spent in barrel aging. This expression was selected by us directly from the domaine's private cellars and after 20yrs of aging it was bottled at a natural cask strength. The brandy is deep, dark and mature with notes of forest floor, grated nutmeg, dark chocolate brownies, vanilla, caramel, flinty notes that hint at gunpowder, assam tea, candied ginger, oak spices, preserved citrus and more.

Staff Pick Notes

Could I offer you a taste of liquid gold?? Armagnacs offer incredible depth and texture and are generally well made without the name brand chic of a more famous French brandy (not going to name names). This twenty year old from Domaine de la Tuilerie is enchanting from the aromas alone- orange peel, cloves, white blossoms, cedar wood, damp leaves - you almost hesitate to sip. But once you do there's no going back. On the palette a rich, enveloping texture that can only come from small family production in this region of the world. The candied sweetness is grounded by salty earth on the finish. An impressive balance throughout. One can be grounded yet dream at the same time. Open this up and toast to life's true pleasures.
