The original Polish bison grass flavored vodka, Zubrowka, known in the US as Zu vodka, originated in a magical place, in the northeast of Poland, in the last primeval forest.
This has been one of my favorite vodkas for years. Recommended to me a decade ago right down the street from Astor Wines at KGB Bar (trust me, a place named KGB Bar knows their vodka), it was love at first sip. Herbaceous and aromatic with notes of citrus, vanilla, and the namesake grass, it's remarkably smooth and has a soft finish. Enjoyed by nobles and peasants alike for centuries, this type of vodka sources its grass from the Bialowieza forest, one of the last primeval forests on Earth. The result is a unique yet traditional spirit that tastes great on its own with a good chill, but also mixes well with seltzer and lemon. If you want to do it as Polish and Belarussians have done for years, mix with fresh apple cider. Now available in a 1L bottle! Na Zdrowie!
