François Voyer VSOP Grande Champagne Cognac

Item # 44241

The Voyer family are widely regarded as one of France's greatest distillers but their fame and reputation has remained largely confined to their home country as their expertise has been in non-stop demand by the biggest brands in the category while the best restaurants in and shops in Paris have sought out the family's bottlings directly. Based in Grande Champagne, this VSOP comes directly from the estate's cellars and gives you a glimpse of the extraordinary potential of this domaine. A blend with an average age of ten years, more than double the requirement for VSOP, distilled exclusively from grapes grown by the Voyer's on their family's vineyards in Chaucet the Cognac hits several major flavor categories with notes of fruit, earth, flowers and spice along with with apricot, jasmine, wildflower honey, white tea, fresh tobacco and nutmeg.

Staff Pick Notes

I’m slowly (ok maybe not that slowly) working my way through the amazing selection of Cognac at Astor and today it’s this incredible VSOP (Very Superior Old Pale) expression from François Voyer. A blend of 7 to 14 year eau-de-vie aged in new Limousin oak barrels for 3 years, in both dry and damp cellars to create the perfect balance of aroma and flavor. Candied fruits and orange peel light up the nose and lead us pied-piper style to a luscious palate of caramel and apricot with touches of licorice and spice, plus a soulful finish that goes for miles. The Voyer vineyards are located in the villages of Verrières and Ambleville, an area known as the ‘golden belt.’ It is here that they have cultivated their vines and distilled their wines since 1870, producing smooth, elegant, and hauntingly beautiful Cognacs from an incredible terroir.
