While all of the releases in the vintage Exceptional Cask series have been world class, we found the exclusive use of ex-Bourbon barrels to age this batch particularly prescient in bringing out the DNA of this distillery. The rum is incredibly expressive with notes of banana cream pudding, sticky toffee bread, tepache, roasted coffee beans and ginger beer.

Everybody who knows me, knows that I love to drink bourbon. It's a fact. What fewer know, however, is that I also love rum. Kill-Devil, Demon Water, Navy Neaters, Nelson's Blood, Barbados Water, Grog, Pirates Drink and Rumbullion. I have found my happy spot with this bottle of Foursquare 2009 Single Barrel rum. Using a combination of artisanal pot and traditional twin column Coffey stills to distill this molasses-based rum results in a rich and assertive spirit at 60% ABV. The rum is allowed to mature for 12 years in used bourbon barrels, which adds a complexity of flavor reminiscent of egg-nog, nutmeg, and toasted coconut. This rum lingers on the palate with notes of banana pudding, fresh ginger, and caramelized pineapple. A complex and viscous rum that will convert any bourbon drinker.
