Tasting Notes

A very unique and rare pure sugar cane rum that has been made on this archipegalo nation since at least the 15th Century. The soils of these lush volcanic islands grown exceptional cane and much care is taken to preserve the nature of their flavors and production is carried out strictly through aritsanal practices, similar to Haitian Clairin, with natural fermentations of fresh pressed cane juice and distillation in direct wood fired pot stills with zero additives ever.

Staff Pick Notes

The versatility and wide breadth of rum available throughout the world has always excited me and kept rum at the top of my spirits list. With La Maison & Velier, you know that anything they import will be incredible. Amado & Vincente Barbosa Grogue (grog-geh) is a cane juice rum made on the island nation of Cape Verde off the coast of West Africa. Using a wooden fire powered pot still and indigenous black cane, this artisanal spirit is presented at its still strength, with no water added whatsoever. For me, this rum is full of notes like rock candy, kiwi, red currant, orange peel, white flora, and a note akin to Ting grapefruit soda. It is ethereal with good texture and a foundation of earthy funk that would present well in cocktails, but this one can also be sipped neat effortlessly.
