Practicing Organic

Spirits made from ingredients that have been cultivated without synthetic pesticides, fertilizers and herbicides at any step in the process.

Tasting Notes

This female founded and operated brand wonderfully illustrates how this often maligned category is in truth brimming with potential. Made from local, organic grown corn in the finger lakes, the spirit is intentionally distilled to retain a real sense of place, and flavor of where and what it comes from. The spirit was left unfiltered as well and at a higher proof (88) than most vodkas to preserve the lush, pillowy soft texture and to ensure its delicious earthy, vanilla flavors hold their own in any drink. A must try in our book. Each bottle is a work of art in itself, created by artisans and traditionally hand-blown so each one is it's own singular expression.

Staff Pick Notes

Vodka might not be the first spirit that comes to mind when you think about incredible quality, artistry, and attention to detail. But female owned and operated Harridan Vodka was founded in part to challenge the notion that vodka cannot be an artisanal product worthy of contemplation. It stands out on the shelf with its wax-sealed, handblown, recycled glass bottles created by artisans in Mexico, and adorned with letterpressed labels displaying stunning artwork. Inside is an impressive spirit that is distilled to 88 proof (higher than your average vodka), which makes it up to the task of contributing to serious and complex creations while remaining smooth and sippable. Distilled from corn on a single farm in the Finger Lakes, this gluten-free vodka is a delight with a slightly sweet finish.

The Hudson River Valley is home to the oldest vineyards in New York State. Lake Erie is still dominated by bulk production for grape juice, though a few small, serious wineries are beginning to crop up. Long Island’s maritime climate...
