This historic release marks not only the first whiskey distilled in Kansas City since Prohibition but the first whiskies distilled and laid down by the revived J. Rieger & Co. Distillery. From whiskies distilled in Fall 2015 and aged beyond the minimum for a bonded whiskey to a full six years, this is a remarkable achievement just to get to this point but it is also easily one of the best whiskies we have tasted all year. This is the kind of stuff we have all been patiently waiting for since the independent distilling movement kicked off about a decade ago and like it says on the back label it is 'O! So Good' Available in very limited quantities.

Being the first rye distilled in Kansas City since Prohibition is a lot to live up to. Relaunching the largest pre-Prohibition mail order whiskey distillery in America is an even bigger legacy to uphold. After six years, we finally get to taste the beauty of this rye. One that goes back and forth between fruits, spices, herbs, and chocolate. And with the extra two years of aging from what is required for a bottled-in-bond whiskey, combined with the 100 proof liquid, you are in for a real treat. A full bouquet of plums, chocolate, cinnamon, and fresh cut grass lead into a rich and viscous palate, which shows why these extra years were so important. This is one of the most interesting and delicious ryes I have ever tasted (with a mashbill of 96% rye), and I am so happy we are able to taste such history once again.
