Tasting Notes

Like Tepextate, Arroqueño is one of the most distinctive and popular agaves used these days for specialty, non Espadin, mezcals. And like those agaves, these are notoriously difficult to cultivate, if at all and take a very long time to mature. Each agave for this batch was a minimum of 20yrs old prior to harvest in the South Sierra where they had grown and were cultivated in the capon method, further concentrating the ripeness of the pinas. Produced in the traditional method by this fourth generation producer and double distilled in direct fire clay pots. The mezcal was never diluted and rested in glass demijohns for 4 months prior to bottling. The total yield was a mere 70 liters.
