Kelley Fox Vermouth

Item # 47770 750mL

Would it be wrong to say our favorite wine from this exceptional Oregon producer is their vermouth? We feel like you might agree if you taste this incredible creation. Kelley Fox is a inspiration for her work in regenerative and organic viticulture and the quality of her efforts shows in the legions of devoted fans for this winery it has inspired. This very special release is like the cherry on top of an porfolio without any gaps. Made from 2020 Pinot Noir as a base, that was then fortified with eau de vie of pinot noir distilled locally at Big Wild Spirits and the final touch that includes an infusion of 35 plants foraged wild locally or grown organically by Stephanie Sprinkle. We can barely put the glass down once we've poured some but this will also keep well in your fridge for weeks at a time.

Staff Pick Notes

This a vermouth born of fire. 2020 was a year of shared pain, grief, confusion, and hope. Wildfires ravaged the Oregon landscape, and Kelley Fox did not make any wine that year. Instead, she partnered with her friends Stephanie Sprinkle and Lynsee Sardell (of Big Wild Spirits), who collaborated to create a monumental vermouth blended with foraged botanicals from the Willamette Valley. Kelley made the base wine of Pinot Noir, Stephanie harvested the botanicals, while Lynsee distilled brandy from Kelley’s grapes and soaked the botanicals in this brandy. While it captures the beauty of the Oregon wilderness, it is so much more. Wormwood, rose, elderflower, and lemon balm are just a few of the 35 plants included in this alchemical blend. This vermouth is a tribute to the beauty that can be created even in the most difficult of times.

Willamette Valley

Perhaps the most familiar wine producing region in Oregon, the Willamette Valley is actually a group of distinct AVA's (American Viticultural Areas). This varied area is home to approximately two thirds of Oregon's wineries. Bounded roughly by the cities of Portland in the north and Eugene in the south, the near-idyllic wine growing region is cradled between the Cascade Mountain Range on its east side and the Coastal Range to the west, and produces some of America's most sublime expressions of...

Oregon

The largest wine region in Oregon is the Willamette Valley, lying between the cities of Portland and Eugene and home to most of Oregon’s wineries. As it does not have one homogeneous climate, it has been broken up into several different AVAs. In the best of them, the perfect amounts of wind, rain, sun exposure, and altitude combine to give Pinot Noir the warm days and cool nights it needs in order to thrive. Combine that with good drainage and poor soils, and you’ve got the perfect environment...
