From the pioneering winery Dom. Skouras in Nemea in Southern Greece's Peloponnese, this wine is a true avatar of the modern Greek red wine born for an international market. Fermented in stainless steel, aged in old French oak for a year and another 6 months in bottle, the wine is clean, round, ripe and full of varietal character. Dark blue and red fruit dominate the profile, with almost Merlot-like smoothness to the round tannins and an unmistakably Greek backbone of dried herbs and charred lamb. My big fat Greek wine? Not exactly. It's smooth without feeling slick, confident without being loud, and obscure without feeling exotic. Next time the mood calls for a red, try this bottle...it's like meeting a Greek in California.

Pronounced "ah yor YEE ti ko", this is one of the most prolific red varieties of Greece. This hard-to-pronounce grape is often called “St. George” for international marketing purposes, and makes some beautiful, easy-drinking, light to medium-bodied wines.
