Tasting Notes

Vibrant and juicy wine from the Jumilla region of Spain, the fruit for this wine comes from old vines grown in chalky limestone. This purple-colored wine offers superb aromatics of wood smoke, damp earth, violets, and blueberry pie.

FULL and SMOOTH

If you love delicious, complex, fruit-forward Spanish wines, then importer Jorge Ordóñez is a name you should know. He brings us this 2007 Juan Gil, which is 100% Monastrell and comes from the Jumilla D.O. in Spain. It is wonderfully aromatic, mixing dark fruit with sweet spice, black pepper, and smoky oak. On the palate, it delivers such pure fruit flavor - tasting just like the boysenberry preserves that my grandmother used to spread on my waffles as a kid. It definitely brings some tannins, but they are rounded out smoothly by just enough oaky, spicy richness that still allows the beautiful dark fruit to take center stage. At this price, you won’t believe how delicious it is, how much you’ll enjoy it, and how quickly it will disappear.

These are very versatile food wines, and, at generally very modest prices, they are the perfect...
