Tasting Notes

This 1er Cru Champagne is made in a fresh and friendly style, highlighting notes of bright orchard fruits accented by a light yeastiness and a slight minerality on the finish. This full-bodied wine should ideally be served with food (think white meat and cream sauces or chicken pot pie), though it is a pleasure to enjoy all on its own. No doubt this NV will flourish with age, yet it is drinking wonderfully today.

Staff Pick Notes

You may think that Champagne labeled 'Blanc de Blancs' has a singular style with a flavor profile of tart, sprightly citrus, and a general lightness. At least that's what I thought until I tried this Premier Cru from Voirin-Jumel. It shows how wide the spectrum truly is. It's got a rich, zesty character, yet it's still very fresh. The aromas are delicately fruity, but when you take a sip it's bolder than you'd expect. The palate is overflowing with flavors...quince, tangerine, peach skin, and pastry dough. It's got some real body to it. Voirin-Jumel is a family estate with vineyards across the Côte des Blancs, and this Champagne comes from the village of Vertus. Sunny, accessible, and a delight.

These winemakers control every...

Chardonnay

From Champagne to Chablis, it's hard (not to mention unpleasant) to avoid this famous white variety. During a huge popularity surge beginning in the late 1980s, Chardonnay plantings have increased dramatically -- not only in California's wine country, with which the variety is nearly synonymous, but also in Burgundy (its original, Old World home) and just about everywhere else in the winemaking...
