Pinot Noir "San Andreas," Hirsch Vineyards - 2021

Item # 18349 750mL

This is a delicate, elegant style of Pinot Noir from Hirsch Vineyards. All of the fruit is estate-grown. Notes of bergamot and black cherry in nose lead to flavors of ripe red fruit, tobacco, and orange peel on the palate.

Staff Pick Notes

Getting to Hirsch Vineyards is a long, choppy trek. Unmarked back roads, steep inclines, rugged terrain all leading to a breath taking view of the Sonoma coast line. David Hirsch has farmed this coarse land alone for 37 years. He found these secluded vineyards on purpose. For David Hirsch is some what of a hermit. This Pinot Noir shows it's cool climate side. Tart red crushed fruit and crunchy marbled minerality is made possible by the high elevation and of course the fog. Reminiscent of the old world, earthiness akin to Burgundy. A wine that would pair seamlessly with prosciutto de parma and creamy goat cheese brie or even a classic Shack Burger. As for books, I'd pair this classy west coast wine with Joan Didion the California Queen herself.

California

California makes more wine than any other state in the United States. Not only does the state grow a variety of noble grape varieties like Pinot Noir, Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon, there are also plantings of lesser-known varieties such as Nebbiolo, Roussanne and Mourvèdre to name just a few.
