Grape Variety

Wine made from grapes grown organically using natural composting techniques and special preparations of herbal sprays while following the astronomical calendar.

Tasting Notes

Les Argiles comes from old Chenin Blanc vines in Vouvray, but due to arcane French bureaucratic law, you won't find Vouvray anywhere on the label. This is a rich, powerful white wine yet dry, balanced and exquisite all the same. Drink with only a gentle chill. Serve with aging, soft goat cheese, salad with egg, or lightly spicy/sweet poultry dishes.

Staff Pick Notes

With all due respect to Sauvignon Blanc, I'm of the opinion that Chenin Blanc is the true darling of the Loire Valley, and this lovely wine by biodynamic producer Francois Chidaine showcases the grape in all its glory. This full-bodied dry white is a perfect food wine. Aromas of white peach and honey are balanced with minerality and the slightest hint of salinity, both coming from the white chalk and clay soils in which the grapes are grown. The palate is full of richness, a perfect complement for everything from roasted chicken to tikka masala and saag paneer. To fully enjoy the flavors and aromas of this complex wine, drink with a only a slight chill.

As diverse as Loire wines are, one day soon you'll know your Melon de Bourgogne from your Romorantin.

These days, one of the most exciting stories is in South Africa, where newly...
