Barbaresco "Pajore," Rizzi - 2019

Item # 27559 750mL

Deep garnet red in color with a sensual nose, fragrant with violets, roses and crisp red fruits. Raspberry and strawberry, with notes of leather, evolutionary spicy, black pepper and clove mass on the palate. A mellow wine, which can be cellared, with a fine tannic structure. A complex combination of finesse and power, femininity and masculine, elegance and mineral. Pajorè is incontestably one of most famous vineyards in the Langhe. The vineyard, located in the heart of Crü Pajorè, enjoys a near-perfect elevation from 300 meters to the roughly 230 meters of the last Nebbiolo worthy rows. It boasts a superb south or south-west-facing and very lean marly soil."

Staff Pick Notes

Barbaresco is a wine made from the Nebbiolo grape, as is Barolo. In Piedmont, Barbaresco is grown in an area north of the area for Barolo and in soil that is considered richer. The Rizzi "Pajore" vineyard is grown at an altitude that is lower than the Rizzi "Boito vineyard. It has less tannin than Barolo and "Boiti." It is a rich, elegant, and delicious wine with good fruit, which is not released for at least three years after harvest, similar to Barolo. The vintage of 2007 was rated very good and the winery is practicing organic. Use this wine with game and other meat meals as well as heavy red sauce dishes.

Piedmont

The most famous grape in Piedmont is the noble Nebbiolo, which makes the long-lived Barolo and Barbaresco. There are plenty of Nebbiolo-based wines that are quite enjoyable in their youth, however, often produced in smaller, lesser-known regions such as Ghemme or Gattinara. Several other Piedmontese grapes make striking and delicious wines: Pelaverga produces light-colored reds with distinctive notes of strawberry, cherry, and pink peppercorn. The red Freisa is vinified in a variety of styles:...
