Grüner Veltliner "Langenlois," Weszeli - 2022

Item # 29492 750mL

Weingut Weszeli keeps a close relationship with nature, and their wines bring the unique taste of the terroir into the glass. This Grüner Veltliner expresses great chalky minerality, with floral and white spice flavors. Great focus, with a dash of spicy pink peppercorns on the finish.

Staff Pick Notes

Looking for a wine to pair with hard-to-pair-with dishes? You have found your solution. Grüner Veltliner can go with a range of notoriously difficult foods including--but not limited to--asparagus, artichokes, and even spicy Szechuan cuisine. I also love to pair Grüner with a basic spicy-lettuce-based salads. This Grüner Veltliner, produced by Weszeli, is indeed quite versatile, and practically screams to be paired with food. It has the classic Grüner white pepper aroma, but is also driven by citrus notes and chalky minerality. Additionally, slightly below the surface, there are hints of grassiness and green apple. I definitely think this is worth trying for your next dinner party (or just your next dinner). One thing to note: don't serve this too cold, as it will lose a lot of its aromatic characteristics.

The wines are consistent and eminently drinkable at the low end, and, on the premium side of things, full-bodied, long-lived, world-class whites.

Austria

Austrian wine is finally getting the attention it deserves. Ever since the late 1980s, Austrian winemaking has taken a much more rigorous approach to quality control, and returned to its roots in organic viticulture.Deservedly famous for its white wines (Grüner Veltliners especially), Austria makes a number of delicious red wines as well. The most widely grown red grape in Austria is Zweigelt (a.k.a. Blauer Zweigelt), which yields full-bodied wines, deep in color and featuring bold flavors of...
