Tasting Notes

The first new violette liqueur we've seen in years, like many of the other things from Giffard, is magnificent. The stunning, multi-hued electric color is impressive enough and the highly aromatic, naturally perfumed nature of the spirit is in excellent harmony with the balanced, not-too-sweet, not-too thick-palate. The refreshing acidity throughout carries the flavors into the long finish. This is a game changer of a product.

Staff Pick Notes

I love violets! I love it when wine smells like violets, I love violet perfume, and I love a violet-flavored drink. Ever had an aviation? It's a variation on the classic sour that boosts already botanical gin with spicy maraschino liqueur and floral crème de violette. The violette can make or break your drink. What you want is beautiful color and intense flavor upfront. Is it going to taste a little soapy? Yes! But that's the name of the game when you like the taste of flowers. I've used all the brands we sell here and Giffard is my favorite. It makes the perfect blue-ish-purple hue and plays well with the variety of gins I've introduced it to.

Loire

There’s a lot to remember when it comes to the Loire. Novices, take note: Cabernet Franc is a great alternative to Cabernet Sauvignon, Muscadet is unparalleled as a companion to shellfish, and Cour Cheverny is the best white wine appellation you’ve never heard of. As diverse as Loire wines are, one day soon you'll know your Melon de Bourgogne from your Romorantin.
