Tasting Notes

Only 500 bottles of this very special spirit have been made. Produced to coincide with the release of Andrea Wulf's The Invention of Nature, this singular product honors 19th century scientist, naturalist and romantic Alexander Von Humboldt whose travels included plenty of cure all tamarind concoctions and whose writings inspired some of our greatest thinkers from who the folks at Tamworth draw much of the philosophy they attempt to imbue in their spirits. Made with their own base spirit produced in-house with the addition of tamarind sourced from Thailand, lemon, pure cane sugar and salt and brought down to 40 proof with Swift River water. Notes include bitter chocolate, sour lemons, savory caramels, and damp autumn leaves.

Staff Pick Notes

I'm always on the lookout for new cocktails with quirky ingredients. Plus, I admit, I'm a sucker for a cool label, especially when it's based on a story about an 18th century explorer. Alexander von Humboldt was a German scientist who explored South America in the late 1700s and for whom the current off the west coast of that continent is named. It is said he enjoyed a "lemonade" of tamarind, lemon zest and brown sugar, which is the inspiration for this slightly sweet and tangy liqueur. This riff on the Paloma cocktail has become one of my favorites for the summer. It's refreshing, delicious, light in alcohol and could not be easier to make.
