Tasting Notes

This old Irish brand was founded in the early 19th century and has been in the hands of the Neill family for five generations since 1869 following Samuel Gelston's passing. The brand is being revived with this old bottling most likely distilled at Bushmills, specialist in some of the island's greatest single malts, and was aged for its entirety on the northern coast of Ireland in ex-Bourbon barrels. Triple-distilled, bottled at the natural cask strength and unchill filitered this is some of the best whisky we've tasted all year. Yes it is rare, yes it is expensive and yes it is worth it. Exactly what you expect a great single malt from the old world to be the flavor profile is at peak maturity with notes of tropical fruits, lemon grass, dried herbs, vanilla and gentle spices. Despite the age and proof making the whiskey versatile with water, it shows exceptional balance as is owing to the triple-distillation stretching every sip further and further on the extended finish that you never want to end.

I really can't expand on the wonders of this malt beyond what our spirits buyer wrote in the tasting notes—except to say that I got to taste this once, close to a year ago, and the flavor still lingers in my mind as a beautiful memory. A rare malt whiskey that is smooth, rich, complex, and worth every penny.
