This wine doesn't need a staff pick. It pretty much sells itself. With it's sunshine adjacent color and name that sets off little fires of optimistic love. I am a long time admirer of Martha Stoumen and her artistically woven wines. These bottles hit a cord. They make you think. And the Honeymoon (an impeccably named wine) gives you nothing but it's best. This blend of Colombard and Roussanne tastes like licking raw honeycomb off a late afternoon crescent moon. Dry. Acid high. An electric blend that will linger in your mind for years to come.

Colombard

Colombard was traditionally used, with Ugni Blanc and Folle Blanche, to make cognac. It fell out of fashion in France in the 1970s, but at the same time caught on in California, and soon became the most widely planted grape in the state (where it was known as French Colombard). There, it was widely used to produce sweet yet crisp bulk wines. Seeing what the Americans had done, the French would soon welcome the grape back into the fold, taking advantage of California's advances in winemaking...
